PRESCRIBED FIRE PRACTITIONER TRAINING DATABASE

The My Training Documents system has transitioned to the Journeyman App, which now serves as the official platform for Good Fire Training Network members to securely store and manage their training records.

The Journeyman App provides a centralized digital hub where prescribed fire and wildland fire practitioners can upload, organize, and access all of their training documentation in one place. This includes course completion certificates, NWCG training records, qualifications, fitness documentation, and other materials required for professional development and operational readiness.

Using the app, practitioners can easily upload new certificates, store training records, and maintain a complete and organized history of their qualifications and experience without relying on scattered email files or paper records. The system helps members keep their documentation current while supporting pathways for Task Book initiation, qualification tracking, and Incident Qualification Card (Red Card) documentation.

To begin using the system, practitioners should download the Journeyman App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and create a free user account. After registering:

  1. Complete your user profile

  2. Upload your training certificates and qualification documents

  3. Add your training courses and experience history

  4. Request to join the “Good Fire Training Network” organization within the app

Once your documents are uploaded, you will have a secure, portable record of your training, experience, and qualifications that can support your continued growth within the national prescribed fire and wildland fire workforce.

By using the Journeyman App, Good Fire Training Network members can maintain accurate, accessible training records while building a stronger, more connected prescribed fire practitioner community.

PRESCRIBED FIRE PRACTITIONER EXPERIENCE DATABASE

he Prescribed Fire Practitioner Experience Database is a professional development system designed to help prescribed fire practitioners across the United States document, track, and advance their prescribed fire training, field experience, and incident participation. The Good Fire Training Network utilizes the Journeyman App as the official platform for maintaining this experience database.

Through the Journeyman App, practitioners can log prescribed burn events, operational roles, acres treated, fuel types, ignition methods, weather conditions, supervision received, training courses, certifications, and incident assignments. This creates a clear and organized record of real-world prescribed fire experience that can support professional growth within the national prescribed fire workforce.

The system supports career development by aligning experience documentation with NWCG standards and prescribed fire leadership pathways, including preparation for Position Task Book evaluations, Incident Qualification Card (Red Card) requests, and Certified Prescribed Fire Burn Boss (CARX) qualifications in California and similar programs nationwide.

Prescribed fire practitioners are encouraged to download the Journeyman App and create a free user account to begin documenting their training, experience, and incident history. After creating an account, users should complete their profile, upload training certificates and qualifications, and request to join the Good Fire Training Network organization within the app.

By maintaining a verified record of training, experience, and prescribed fire participation, practitioners help build a stronger and more connected national prescribed fire workforce dedicated to safely expanding the use of beneficial fire to restore ecosystems, reduce hazardous fuels, and protect communities from catastrophic wildfire.

NWCG Task Book Initiation & Fire Training Officer Program

The NWCG Task Book Initiation and Fire Training Officer (FTO) Program is a members-only service designed to help Fire Practitioner Members start, manage, and successfully complete NWCG Position Task Books. Through this program, the Healthy Forest Alliance serves as your Training Officer, ensuring task books are properly initiated, documented, and aligned with NWCG standards.

Eligible members can request initiation of NWCG Task Books such as FFT2, FFT1, ENGB, Firing Boss, FAL3, and other operational positions. Our FTO team supports you by verifying prerequisites, tracking progress, reviewing experience entries, and providing guidance on appropriate trainee assignments during prescribed fire projects, wildfire incidents, and trainings.

This program is ideal for practitioners working with PBAs, nonprofits, private landowners, or agencies that do not have an internal training officer. By centralizing oversight and documentation, the program helps ensure credibility, compliance, and a clear pathway for career advancement within the National Wildfire Coordinating Group qualification system.

INCIDENT QUALIFICATION CARDS

The Incident Qualification Card (Red Card) Program provides eligible Fire Practitioner Members with a clear, compliant pathway to obtain and maintain NWCG Incident Qualification Cards. Through this program, the Good Fire Training Network reviews your training, experience, and currency to verify that you meet NWCG standards for wildland fire and prescribed fire operations.

Members use this program to submit required documentation such as completed NWCG courses, Position Task Books, RT-130, Work Capacity Test results, and logged experience from the Fire Practitioner Database. Our qualifications team verifies records, ensures prerequisites are met, and issues Incident Qualification Cards for approved positions.

This program is especially valuable for practitioners working with PBAs, nonprofits, contractors, or landowners who may not have access to an agency Training Officer or qualification unit. By centralizing qualification review and oversight, the Red Card Program supports safe operations, professional credibility, and consistent compliance with National Wildfire Coordinating Group standards across prescribed fire and wildfire incidents.

Wildland Fire Experience Database System

The Wildland Fire Experience Database System is a members-only platform designed to help Fire Practitioner Members accurately track and document wildfire response experience across incidents, assignments, and training events. This system provides a centralized, organized record of your wildland fire history, supporting both operational readiness and long-term career development.

Members can log incident names, dates, locations, positions held, trainee assignments, operational periods, and supervising overhead. These records are used to support NWCG Position Task Books, Incident Qualification Card (Red Card) requests, and annual qualification reviews. The system also helps members maintain currency requirements such as recent experience, RT-130 compliance, and Work Capacity Test alignment.

This database is especially valuable for practitioners working across multiple incidents, agencies, PBAs, or nonprofit organizations where experience can otherwise be difficult to track. By maintaining accurate wildfire experience records, members strengthen their qualifications, improve mobility between assignments, and support safe, professional wildland fire operations.
