Spring 2024 Plumas Cal-TREX Application Form
The 2024 Plumas Cal-TREX is a 6 day training from April 29th - May 4th, 2024. This TREX, short for Prescribed Fire Training Exchange, is designed for folks interested in learning about how prescribed fire is used and implemented on landscapes in Plumas County, CA. The week will focus on hands-on learning opportunities and developing crew cohesion. Live fire will be prioritized if there is a burn window. Training will incorporate equipment utilization, weather and fuel observations, fireline leadership skills, medical scenarios, communication, burn planning, and fire ecology.

All skill levels are welcome.

We will camp together, eat together, and be students of fire together.

The training will be organized as an incident and will utilize the Incident Command System. Participants will serve on a burn team and will assist with preparing, scouting, briefing, igniting, holding, fire effects monitoring, securing, and patrol on prescribed burns throughout Plumas and Butte County. The work will take place in diverse ecosystems, including on lands managed by the Plumas National Forest, Feather River College, and private landowners.

In addition there are optional training components:
1) April 28th: RT-130 Fireline Refresher Course/Arduous Work Capacity Test/practice shelter deployment.

2) Classroom and field-based training opportunities, including NWCG certificates (See questions below for potential offerings).

All TREX participants will also be signed up for on-call prescribed fire training as burn windows become available throughout the year.

This registration form is required for participation in any or all of the training options.

Registration is $175. This cost covers breakfast, lunch, dinner and camping costs from April 29 through May 4.
There are limited scholarships available. Please indicate below if you need a partial or full-scholarship in order to participate.

The camping facilities are available Sunday evening (April 28th) through Saturday afternoon (May 4th) at Wild Plumas in Greenville, CA. Participants will need to bring their own tent, sleeping bag, and other necessary camping gear. There is access to limited food storage and food prep facilities at Wild Plumas, but there is no refrigeration. Bathrooms are porta potties and showers are likely to be rustic outdoor facilities.

A packing list, including necessary PPE, is available here.

Participation is capped at 50 people. Filling out this form does not guarantee admission. You will be contacted prior to the event to confirm your spot in specific components of the event. The registration fee and liability forms will be collected after confirmation of your participation.
