My name is Emily Chambers. I live in Santa Cruz, CA. I'm taking this course to learn more about wildfires/prescribed burning. I have limited firsthand experience with prescribe fire. A fun fact about me is that I am originally from Canada.

Greetings, all!  I'm Bob Horn, originally from Santa Cruz, Ca and currently residing in beautiful, rural Stanislaus County. I'm taking this course first as a way to better understand wildfires and how they affect our state, and also to open the opportunity to take an active role in in future prescribed burns and fuel reduction efforts. When I'm not planted in front of a bank of computer monitors (which is far too much), I can be found negotiating fire trails, or pulling trout out of one off our great state's rivers.  I have limited wildfire experience as a national guard medic.  Fun fact: In addition to having been a CARNG medic, I used to look for submarines in the navy.

Hi Richard, it is nice to meet you. I was wondering where the online self-paced courses and pre-course work are located? I haven't seen anything besides the introduction assignment. Thank you

Does anyone have recommendations on what kind of boots to get or where to find used ones? They seem to be very expensive and I'm a little worried about having enough money to get all the gear together. Any help appreciated. Thanks team

I'm concerned as well. There is a Facebook group for Wildland Fire Gear Buy Sell Trade and I've seen some boots posted there. A UC Cooperative Extension Fire Advisor in my region told me that strong leather and good (Vibram) soles are probably more important than height, but I'm hoping perhaps Richard can provide some guidance?
