  1. Hello my name is Mykael Pineda and I'm really excited to be here!
  2. I live in Merced, CA right now.
  3. I have come to love the expanding field of wildfire and want to learn more about the physical aspect/ prevention/ management side of it, specifically fuel management and safety. <3
  4. I haven't had any physical experience, besides measuring burned fuels after a prescribed fire and creating plots in burn scars for research (reseeding burn scars, super fun). I also have experience exploring the socioeconomics that determines how deadly wildfires can be to wildland urban interface (WUI) areas, using ArcGIS mapping.
  5. I can make ravioli from scratch :)

Hi! I'm Alexis Bernal (Lex/Lexi)

I'm currently a PhD student at Cal, but my permanent home is in Mariposa where I serve as a steering committee member of the Yosemite Gateway Prescribed Burn Co-op.

I got my FFT2 quals a few years back, but it has since lapsed. Because I want to get CARX, I think it'll be a good thing to do this course again. I'm also just generally interested in the courses provided by HFA.

Most of my experience is in prescribed burns with various PBAs and Berkeley Forests. I've probably been on 20 or so burns in the last 10 years.

Fun fact, I volunteer as a ski patroller in the winter!

Oh cool! I volunteer at Bear Valley (off highway 4). My partner is the hill coordinator for patrol there. If you're ever that way, I can hook you up with a free ticket!
